Chew and Blagdon lakes once again played host to the exciting 2023 Fly Fishing final for the Cortland Fly Fishing Team Championship, with the Woodford Lodge catering to the 102 anglers representing 16 teams from all over the country that took part.
The final was held over two days with teams swapping venues each day in order to fish the best of both Chew and Blagdon Lakes. Up for grab were not only Cortland Fly Lines and Turrall Flies and Materials but cash prizes kindly donated by Turrall.
The fishing did not disappoint with all anglers taking a good catch of fish on the opening day. Anglers such as Scott Graham took top rod on the first day on Chew with 19 for 37lbs and Graham Currie taking top rod on Blagden with 16 for 32lb.
The results after the first day were close with all to fish for on the final day. As the final day began the weather was stunning. Warm and hot with hardly a cloud in the sky. Some might argue not ideal for catching but as always anglers will deal with the weather what ever comes and such conditions really set the teams apart as anglers did their best to bring in the catches.
After the day was called and the weigh in completed the results were out. The Team Nymphomaniacs clinched the top spot with Team Airflo second and Team Elinor Third. Bob Cooper picked up the biggest fish with 5lb 4oz with Scott Graham taking the best bag total. Well done to all those who took part and showed great support and enthusiasm. Woodford Lodge provided a great venue for the prize giving with drinks and food for all.
